Job Summary
The Senior Cloud Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, engineering, and owning the enterprise cloud platform. This role defines how cloud environments are structured, governed, secured, and consumed across the organization.
You will design foundational components such as landing zones, organizational structures, network models, identity frameworks, security guardrails, and cost governance models. You will partner with technical and business stakeholders to translate real-world needs into scalable, resilient cloud architectures.
This is a hands-on senior role for engineers who can operate with minimal direction, lead design discussions, and make platform-level decisions that shape how the organization uses cloud.
This role is focused on platform architecture and foundational cloud design, not CI/CD tooling, application delivery pipelines, Kubernetes-first environments, or lift-and-shift migrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer enterprise-scale cloud platforms in AWS and Azure
- Own the design of landing zones, organizational structures, and multi-account or multi-subscription models
- Define and implement identity, access, and governance frameworks
- Architect network topologies, segmentation strategies, and routing models
- Design and enforce security baselines, guardrails, and policy frameworks
- Own cost governance strategies including tagging standards, cost allocation models, and chargeback or showback
- Engineer reusable platform components and shared services that other teams consume
- Build standardized infrastructure using Terraform as the primary interface to the cloud
- Partner with application, security, and finance teams to align platform design with business needs
- Make long-term architectural decisions that balance scalability, security, and operability
- Troubleshoot complex platform-level issues when necessary, focusing on systemic improvements rather than ticket-driven support
- Create platform documentation, standards, and best practices
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to other engineers
- Participate in on-call rotations as needed for platform-level ownership and resilience
Requirements
- 8+ years of cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Strong hands-on experience designing and owning cloud platforms, not just deploying workloads
- Direct experience building and maintaining landing zones and foundational cloud services
- Deep understanding of cloud networking, identity, security, and governance models
- Strong experience using Terraform as a primary tool for defining and managing cloud infrastructure
- Experience designing reusable, opinionated platform components and shared services
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
- Strong scripting and automation skills
- Ability to operate independently with minimal direction
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience translating business needs into scalable, enterprise-grade technical designs
- Experience working in Agile environments
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with financial management or integration tools such as Flexera or NICUS
- Experience designing cloud platforms in regulated or compliance-heavy environments
- Experience contributing to enterprise architecture decisions
- Prior participation in disaster recovery design and testing
- Multi-cloud platform experience (AWS and Azure)
