• For the last 3 years, I have been the DBA/Application Admin for Axways Secure Transport for Benjamin Moore.
• When I took over Secure Transport had a reputation as a “problem” application. There were literally thousands of failures and or retries every month. Within 6 months after quantifying the issues, tuning Secure Transport and having both internal and External partner tune their destination servers for the volume, Secure Transport became one of the most stable applications in our Enterprise.
• Being a DBA, I also took the time to learn the data model and created scripts to get summarized metrics down to hourly granularity by account, subscription, and file type. I also monitored and tuned the queries and the MySQL database itself so as not to interfere with transfer processing.
• I led the 5.2.1 Secure transport migration to a new Data Center last year and upgrade to 5.4 this year. After studying MySQL database internals, I tuned the MySQL database after experiencing 1 hr delay in processing 5 concurrent transfers of 8,000 files each.
• Performance tuning is part of any DBA’s DNA, so that attribute will be helpful in the Performance Test Engineer position. I recently developed a database restore in a Disaster Recovery scenario (fresh database). I also developed a suite of Linux utilities that would monitor and send emails to the proper partners for missing transfers as well as successful ones. An enhanced version also attached the transferred file to our Partners.
• I have experience with all phases of software development. It also has required that I interface with all groups within the enterprise. These groups include end-users, business analysts, data modelers, system administrators and architects, vendors, ETL development groups, web groups and reporting groups.
• I have been involved in developing standards and strategies in areas such as data conventions, data and database standards. I also have been involved in managing change control and developing Software Development Lifecycle standards.
