Developed hardware and softgoods supporting Space Shuttle Thermal Protection System repair in EVA environment, a project evolving from NASA directives pertaining to heat shield (tile) damage of Space Shuttle Columbia. Successfully certified product and method as a means of contingency repair of heat shield allowing safe re-entry of Shuttle. Dispositioned discrepancy reports to validate or invalidate suitability of tile overlay components as manufactured, working closely with and obtaining approvals from matrix organizations (Materials, Stress Analysis, Quality Engineering). Performed certification testing to qualify hardware for space flight and use. Designed test fixturing for environmental testing of tile overlay components. Environmental tests included vibration, thermal vacuum, and load testing. Successfully managed delivery of tile overlay components designated to fly on Shuttle mission, providing non-discrepant, high quality hardware on time or early. Utilized technical writing skills to complete and obtain NASA approval of Quality Verification documentation for all components of tile repair assembly.

As Costing Specialist - Utilized RSMeans costing modules to generate cost estimates based on damage description and dimensions from Hurricane Harvey site inspections. Transferred RSMeans data to CEF format for submittal to CRC costing center. Validated existing cost estimates from applicant using RSMeans data. Developed Scopes of Work for the process of repair or replacement of facilities in accordance with the recorded damages. As Site Inspector - Conducted on-site inspections of applicant’s claimed damages resulting from Hurricane Harvey. Facilities inspected included public-owned and non-profit buildings, namely schools, churches, hospitals, and wastewater treatment facilities. Captured damage information through photos, measurements, and sketches. Scaled architectural drawings as necessary to quantify damage dimensions. Completed Site Inspection Reports and scanned all supporting documentation into Customer Relations Management Tool (Grants Manager).

Designed, developed, and tested earth-boring rockbits for drilling in harsh downhole environments. Job responsibilities included lab testing of new design concepts of bearing systems and carbide cutting structures. In this capacity, worked closely with field engineers to provide competitive designs for drilling through different formations. Evaluated performance of field test units and redesigned these units for improved performance. Worked closely with resident chemist assisting with running compatibility tests in the lab on synthetic lubricants and elastomers, typically HNBR. Exposure with use of Instron tester, analyzing the compressibility of elastomer seals and characterizing metal face seals. Regularly participated in root cause analysis of rockbit dulls returned from field after use in drilling. Utilized CADKey computer-aided design software in project design phases. Utilized computer-simulated model of rockbit to analyze performance and optimize design of carbide cutting structure.

Designed/developed space flight hardware for on-orbit extravehicular activity (EVA) used in assembly and maintenance of Space Station program. Responsibilities included design of mechanical systems for EVA tool stowage container, design of manufacturing fixtures, and dispositioning of nonconformance reports for part discrepancies incurred during manufacturing. Also responsible for conducting qualification testing (thermal, vibration, load, fit checks) of flight hardware. Worked closely with manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Materials & Processes, and Safety & Reliability during design and production phases to assure product quality per company standards set forth by ISO 9001 certification. In addition, designed/developed thermal insulation systems for rocketry including development of attachment methods for high-temperature blankets to protect rocket engine components. Designed, fabricated, and operated test fixtures for thermal systems division, including an air permeability test unit, and a full-scale test unit for measuring actuation loads of rocket engine gyrating within a pressurized thermal boot.
