Seeking a Chief Technology Offier for a 100% Remote position in the Diagnostics / Animal Healthcare industry.

As the most senior technology leader, the Chief Technology Officer reports to the company’s President, and leads all aspects of global information technology, software, systems, and data analytics. This encompasses internal IT, customer-facing technology, and partnership initiatives. As a member of the senior leadership team, this executive develops strategies to leverage technology and data to support the commercial, operational and overall business objectives of the company. In addition, the CTO ensures that the ongoing needs of clients, the business and its partners are met with a reliable set of systems, solutions and information technology that deliver a best-in-class experience. The CTO is someone who has a mix of both broad technology strategy and the ability to deep-dive into customer, business, and architectural challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Technology Officer must perform and excel at each essential function. These requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilities required for the role.

  • Work with the senior team to provide input and insight regarding how to continue to evolve and grow the business globally while improving the client experience, both broadly and with specific focus on technology, data, software and information systems.
  • Drive global IT strategy to enable business growth and a best-in-class client experience.
  • Provide clients with data-driven patient care insights delivered through easy-to-use and intuitive solutions and integrations that streamline workflow and drive productivity.
  • Ensure all laboratories have software and information technology solutions that meet users’ needs, drive operational productivity and deliver excellent uptime. Provide associates with reliable systems, software and data to perform their jobs. Continue to evolve these to make them better integrated and easier to use.
  • Evolve and accelerate initiatives in data science, artificial intelligence (Al) and machine learning (ML) to drive new products and services development and enhance the client experience. Leverage the ecosystem to collaborate, share data and draw on enterprise expertise in data science and Al.
  • Lead the diagnostics integration strategy and implementation with third-party software providers. Maintain knowledge of evolving industry, competitive and broader technology, systems, software and data capabilities and solutions.
  • Lead and manage the internal team of approximately 70 IT and Technology professionals. Continue to evolve the team commensurate with strategy, resource needs, business growth and performance.
  • Foster a positive culture in which the team enjoys and is challenged by what they do and who they work with and have the necessary resources to be successful in their roles.
  • Partner with third-party IT and technology providers to augment resources as appropriate. Facilitate sourcing, negotiating with and managing external vendors.
  • Partner with ecosystem leaders and resources to collaborate, share and leverage technology and resource needs where appropriate.
  • Maintain accountability for developing and managing all financial budgets and plans associated with information technology, software, systems, data, and the resources needed to manage, support and evolve these.
  • The CTO may also participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects and other duties.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate for the role of Chief Technology Officer will bring to the role:

  • 15 years or more experience in all aspects of technology, software, IT systems, infrastructure, and data analytics; 10 years leadership experience at the Director level or higher.
  • A track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Experience visioning, leading and managing transformational and digital change.
  • Proven ability to lead successful technology product development & implementation initiatives
  • Working knowledge of evolving industry and competitive news and trends as well as broader technology, systems, software and data capabilities and solutions.
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking, decision-making and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, the ability to influence, and the power of persuasion.

Year one critical success factors

In the first 12 months, the Chief Technology Officer will:

  • Proactively focus on, connect and develop deep and meaningful relationships throughout the IT organization and with functional and operating management.
  • Assess the IT organization’s structure and staffing; develop recommendations for improvements and changes as warranted.
  • Evaluate and modify existing IT roadmaps and plans as needed; participate in technology investment, business review and planning meetings.
  • Review IT operating costs, supplier contracts, capital investments, and the IT project portfolio for appropriateness of pricing, financial management and controls.
  • Assess technical debt and recommend technical changes that are cost-justified.
  • Continue the growth of digital operations, channels and market-facing technology.
  • Evaluate and strategize the company’s collection and utilization of data.

EDUCATION

  • A baccalaureate degree is required, and a master's degree is preferred.
