Seeking a Mainframe Data Migration Specialist for a 100% Remote position.
As part of the larger team, Data Migration Specialist may extract data from a variety of legacy mainframe databases, map the raw data to new database systems in either the cloud or on-premises data solutions. This position is responsible for extracting, mapping, formatting, and importing client data from legacy systems into cloud-based data environments. They must understand data structure, determine data relationships to properly map data into the most strategic areas within the new data structures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Export customer data from legacy databases.
- Update taxonomy changes to reflect code changes in migrated mainframe code.
- Map legacy database files to newly configured database solutions.
- Work with Project Managers and Engineers to further interpret and map customer data.
- Collaborate with our world-class Sales Team to review prospective customer data and provide a pricing quote.
- Validate the data in both the original and destination systems.
- Analyze the methods of transforming existing data into a format for the new environment and choose the best solution for the client’s situation.
- Relational database experience required.
- Scripting language experience required.
- SQL experience required
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Experience with DB2 Z/OS, DB2 LUW, IMDB, etc., database backups, unloading data, and database mapping.
- Enjoys creative problem solving, and thrives in a collaborative, open work environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional time management and the ability to work with a project manager to set and meet deadlines is a necessity.
- Requires a self-driven individual who is detail oriented and is comfortable proposing, demonstrating and documenting solutions.
- Support Team members (PM, TDS, SA) around deliverables, timelines, and strategies.
- Provide expert advice on best practice migration solutions that satisfy customer requirements.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Min of 5+ years’ experience running data migrations in a complex environment.
- Intermediate or advanced knowledge of networking, hardware and operating systems, databases, remote connectivity, security, and image processing.
- Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and scripting languages.
- Understanding of zOS and/or Unisys based Database systems
- Proven knowledge of Windows Server, and SQL based Database solutions in cloud environments.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise storage technologies (SAN/NAS)
- SME of data archiving technologies, such as tape, optical and hierarchical storage management (HSM) systems.
Travel
- Travel maybe required dependent on client requirements but would be less than 25%.
